The leaves on the trees are discolored and already falling off. The cyclamen is in the bed and has already set the first flower buds. What are you waiting for? It's about time to bring in the cyclamen!

Frost outside and blooms inside
Most perennials flower in summer. However, the cyclamen does not believe in being like everyone else. It blooms when autumn is raging, winter is approaching and spring is approaching. In short: it blooms when it's uncomfortable outside.
It brings color with its purple, pink, rose or white flowers. It is therefore advisable to bring cyclamen indoors when it is frosty outside and ready to flower.
Frost is not a problem for many species
But it is not always possible to bring in the cyclamen. This is not a problem for some species such as summer cyclamen, autumn cyclamen and early spring cyclamen. They are hardy down to -25 °C.
Get warm
Before it attacks a sensitive cyclamen like the cyclamen in winter, you should bring it in. Many gardeners plant their cyclamen in early summer to give them a place in the shade to retire and recover. In the fall, it moves back indoors to bloom through the winter.
Cyclamen that stay outside protect
Cyclamen, which remain in the garden and are considered to be poorly frost hardy, should be protected over the winter. It would be ideal to overwinter them in a frost-free place.
Here are tips on how to protect a frost-sensitive cyclamen outside:
- pile with compost
- put foliage over it
- Lay brushwood over the foliage
- do not fertilize after September
- do not water during frost
A cyclamen should stay on the balcony? Not unprotected! If it cannot be placed inside, its pot should be covered with fleece or a jute sack (€10.99). The pot is then placed on a styrofoam block directly against the protective wall of the house.
tips and tricks
As soon as winter is over (around March) the cyclamen can move out again and get some fresh air.
