Dahlias are dug up after the first frost at the latest and prepared for hibernation. If you don't have a basement or another suitable room, you can try overwintering georgines in pots.

Dahlias that are to be overwintered in the pot are brought in after the first frost

Bring indoors after first frost

If you want to leave dahlia tubers in the pot over winter, you should only water very sparingly from the end of September.

After the frost, cut off the shoots of the dahlia above the ground. Leave small stubs so that you do not injure the root neck in any case. New shoots will grow from it next year.

Place the planter at a maximum of ten degrees. You should give very little water once a month.

tips and tricks

In the spring, remove the dahlias that have overwintered in the pot, check for rot and divide tubers that are too large. Plant the dahlias in fresh, fertilized soil.
