It often doesn't take long before you fall in love with her. Whether in the face of their blue-violet flowers or their scent - the slightly poisonous grape hyacinth is often reproduced. You can find out how to do this in detail below!

Here you do not have to lend a hand - self-sowing
The most common method of propagation for the grape hyacinth is all by itself. This plant loves to propagate by self-seeding. But where she doesn't feel comfortable, you can wait a long time for it. On the other hand, if the location and care are right, it doesn't take long and over the years more and more grape hyacinths appear.
If you want your pearl hyacinth to sow yourself, you should consider another crucial aspect in addition to the location and care. Do not cut off the yellowing and slowly drying leaves and flowers in summer. This is the only way for the seeds to form unhindered and later be scattered by the wind.
Trust is good, control is better - targeted sowing
But there are gardeners who do not trust in self-sowing. They prefer to take the propagation of their grape hyacinth into their own hands. That's how it's done:
- Collect seeds in summer
- Sow in autumn or spring
- Seeds are cold germs
- sow directly outdoors
- Cover lightly with soil and keep moist
- It takes many years for the first flowers to appear
Propagation via onion bulbs
Lastly, the propagation method, which is the fastest and safest. It is propagation by means of the daughter onions/brood onions that develop in summer. They arise in the immediate vicinity of the bulb of the mother plant.
Carefully dig up these bulbs and separate their roots from those of the other plants. You can plant these bulbs in the fall. They should be placed in the ground at a minimum distance of 10 cm from the mother plant. The substrate should be loose, nutritious and permeable. Soon these specimens will bloom.
tips and tricks
If you don't want the pearl hyacinth to multiply by itself and form carpets of flowers, you should cut off the leaves and flowers before they dry up. It is best to do this just after flowering between May and June.
