Hemp palms are robust and frugal. The demands on the plant substrate are not very high. Normal garden soil is sufficient for older plants. You can get soil for younger hemp palms at the hardware store. But you can also easily mix them together yourself.

The hemp palm is not very picky about its soil

Hemp palms are not demanding

The hemp palm likes a moderately acidic, well-drained soil. The soil should not be too rich in nutrients.

Normal garden soil is sufficient for older plants in the garden. For younger hemp palms or potted plants, simply assemble the soil yourself:

  • garden soil
  • peat
  • compost
  • gravel
  • sand
  • lava granules

It is ideal if the soil for the hemp palm is made up of equal parts compost and loamy garden soil. Gravel, sand and peat ensure that the substrate remains nice and loose and that irrigation and rainwater can run off easily.

tips

Special palm soil, as offered in the garden store, is not necessary for the hemp palm. It is expensive and usually contains too many nutrients.
