Reeds are not always desirable in a meadow or in the garden. Unfortunately it is difficult to remove. In the following we explain how to get rid of reeds or Chinese reeds by mowing several times.

The repetition does it
Digging up the roots of reeds is extremely laborious. A simpler alternative to permanently removing reeds is mowing. However, this is not done all at once; it has to be mowed again and again, because: even reeds give up at some point.
At intervals of a week or two, mow the affected area over and over again until the reeds no longer sprout.
When is the best time to mow?
It is advisable to mow the reeds at a rainy time if possible. Then there is a chance that water will penetrate the cut stalks and the roots will rot. This speeds up the destruction process considerably.
What tools are suitable for mowing
Before you mow reeds, you should cut the stalks down to the ground with secateurs. If the ornamental grass is already quite large and the stalks are wide and gnarled, a conventional lawn mower may not be enough to get rid of them. In this case, the following are possible:
- grass cutting blade
- Thicket or shredder knife
- circular saw blade
