It is green, round and sometimes more or less conspicuous - the classic water butt. It also proves to be very useful when the water runs off the roof tiles. But who always wants to go with the flow? A square rain barrel is something different. In addition, there is a double benefit. Read here how to make the model yourself and what advantages arise.

Advantages of a square water butt
In contrast to the round model, a square water butt can be placed directly on the house wall. This means that there is no need for a kinked downspout to direct the water into the tank. Wood paneling, which enhances the look many times over, is also much easier to attach.
building instructions
Basically, as with the conventional models, you need a container that has no cracks and has a sufficiently large volume to store large amounts of water. Unfortunately, romantic wine barrels are not suitable for the square version. If you grab a conventional plastic container, the only option is to cover it yourself. Your blank must meet the following requirements:
- Free from cracks or leaks
- Free from chemical residues or oil (rinse thoroughly beforehand)
- Sufficient volume
- Stable and stable
Enhance the look of the square rain barrel
As already mentioned above, the visual enhancement of a square water butt proves to be particularly easy.
- Attach double-sided tape to the top and bottom.
- Attach cut wooden strips to this.
- Fixed drilling is not recommended as leaks could occur.
- Make a pedestal.
- Place the rain barrel on a house wall.
Note: Since a water butt can weigh a ton even with a small amount of water, you should choose the location before installation. This is particularly recommended for square models, as they cannot be rolled like conventional bins.
