The delicate flower of the Marchenbecher grows wild in nature, but is one of the endangered species in this country. It is therefore nice when this white early bloomer is given a place in your own garden. But which location should it be? Does the March cup have a preference for shade or sun?

March mugs like it moist and shady

Preferred location in nature

The March cup originally grew in the middle of forests or on the edge of forests. It was particularly common in wooded areas along streams and rivers, so-called alluvial forests. In such a forest, he found shelter from direct sun and got plenty of moisture. Unfortunately, it is being pushed back more and more in the wild.

Notice:
If you find the spring beaker growing wild, you can only admire it. It is not allowed to dig it up and plant it at home. It is under nature protection. Onions for the home garden are sold commercially in autumn.

Ideal location in cultivated gardens

The March beaker has taken its location preferences with it to the Kulturgarten:

  • Partial shade or shade is ideal
  • it is therefore well suited as an underplanting
  • the soil should be moist and fresh
  • slightly acidic to slightly alkaline
  • a nearby garden pond is ideal

tips

It is better to do without this flower if small children are playing in the garden. March mug is poisonous, in all parts.
