The most beautiful thing about the eucalyptus is undoubtedly its bluish shimmering leaves. It is all the more annoying when he throws them off early. Even in winter, it usually keeps its foliage in a suitable location. But you don't have to worry about getting sick right away. It is often small but crucial care mistakes that cause the loss of leaves. You can find help on this page.

If the eucalyptus does not feel comfortable in its location, it sheds its leaves

causes

  • Wrong location
  • Wrong wintering

Wrong location

The eucalyptus makes no special demands on the temperature. You can place it in both warm and cool locations. It becomes problematic if you give your tree too little light. The leaves lose their attractive blue color even with a slight lack of light. If the eucalyptus is too dark, it sheds its leaves completely. If he is also exposed to high room temperatures at night, this intensifies the symptoms.

Wrong wintering

In the dormant phase, however, you should not overwinter your eucalyptus too warm. A maximum room temperature of 15°C is recommended. Under no circumstances should you expose the tree to frost. Overwintering in the fresh air is strongly discouraged. Only the Eucalyptus gunii variety is hardy and does not suffer any damage even at temperatures down to -20°C. However, it is treacherous that specimens are often offered in the trade that are declared as “conditionally winterproof”. These are not nearly as resistant as the eucalyptus gunii. They often only tolerate a few degrees below zero. So do not rely on this name, but also bring these plants into the house in winter.
A bright location is just as important here as it is in summer.

Give your eucalyptus enough time to recover in winter. Reduce watering and cut back on fertilizing completely.
