Fancy a bit of extravagance in the garden? The eucalyptus from Australia is guaranteed to add exoticism. If you like it colorful, you will immediately fall in love with the Eucalyptus Azura variety. The hardy tree makes hardly any demands on care. Nevertheless, you should maintain the appearance of the plant with a regular topiary. Read here what you need to watch out for.

cultivation opportunities
The eucalyptus is available either as a tree or as a shrub. If you come across the Australian plant as an ornamental tree, it is probably a breed. Although the eucalyptus Azura is one of the small varieties, it can also reach a height of up to five meters. Regular pruning will prevent the tree from growing too big for your garden.
Possible locations
If you keep the eucalyptus Azura small, it hardly takes up any space. This beautiful variety is therefore also suitable for small gardens. Possible locations are for example:
- the balcony
- the terrace
- in the bed
- as a container plant in rock gardens
- as a houseplant
The eucalyptus tree actually needs a warm, sunny location, which is why keeping it outdoors is recommended. However, you can also cultivate the genus Eucalyptus gunii, which also includes Eucalyptus Azura, as a houseplant.

As a houseplant, you can prune your Eucalyptus Azura all year round.

- Remove any crooked branches.
- Shorten the sprouts to two to three buds.
- Treat the interfaces with a wound protection agent.
- Do not cut into the roots of the plant.
Note: The eucalyptus is a very pruning-tolerant tree species. The Eucalyptus gunii variety grows very slowly at 40 cm per year and therefore does not have to be cut as often.
