Eucalyptus is easy to grow from seed

cultivation instructions

The cultivation of a eucalyptus takes place in the following steps:

  • Obtaining the seeds
  • Pre-treatment of the seeds
  • stratification of seeds
  • sowing
  • germination time
  • sustainable care

Obtaining the seeds

If you already have a eucalyptus and want to propagate it, it is worth trying to take some seeds from the existing tree. However, the easiest way is to order them from specialist retailers or on the Internet.

Preparation of the seeds

To increase germination, you should mix the seeds with dry, fine sand.

stratification of seeds

If you have decided on a hardy eucalyptus, you must store its seeds in the refrigerator for four to six weeks before sowing. Temperatures of 2-5°C are recommended for storage.

sowing

You can sow a eucalyptus all year round. Recommended as a substrate

  • Potting soil that you mix with sand or perlite (37.51€).
  • or coconut

The eucalyptus is a light germinator. Make sure you only place the seeds on the substrate surface or only slightly press them in. Cultivation should take place at around 20-25°C. For hardy varieties, on the other hand, 15-18°C is ideal.
Then keep the substrate constantly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Store the seed pots (€16.68) in a light spot.

germination time

Regular watering is still important for growth. After the steps described, you now have to be patient for about 3-6 weeks.

Sustainable care

Depending on how you want to cultivate your eucalyptus, you should cut it back regularly. Keep the plant either on the balcony, in a bucket on the patio, in the garden bed or as a houseplant. In any case, place the deciduous tree in a bright, warm location and make sure it is sufficiently watered. Fertilizing twice a week promotes growth.
