- Raised bed made of larch
Of all conifers, larch provides the hardest and most weather-resistant wood. It is ideal as a load-bearing element and is ideally suited for use in outdoor areas. Decking boards, garden furniture or raised beds are made from it. Can it benefit from special care, or can it do without it altogether?

Durable even if untreated
Larch wood that has not been treated with protective and care products is still in good condition even after years. Siberian larch is harder than other larch species and is popular as a patio floor covering.
Prevent gray haze
Outdoors, the Siberian larch is exposed to wind and weather. Wetness and sun exposure are the two components that eat away at it the most. Over time, part of the surface decomposes and forms a silvery-grey patina. This is a natural protection against harmful UV radiation.
The gray discoloration is primarily a question of optics, which not every owner likes. It can be prevented preventively.
- Treat with a special larch oil
- it should be pigmented
- Apply immediately after installation
- thereafter annually
tips
Staining is a good idea if you want to change the color of the larch wood. However, it must first be treated with a resin-soluble agent.
Clean dirty surface
Although Siberian larch tolerates chemicals, you should still use soapy water to clean it. Special wooden floor soaps clean and also form a protective layer.
Coarse dirt can be removed with a brush. Bird droppings and other dirt should be removed as soon as possible so that they do not leave unsightly stains on the wood surface.
extend lifespan
Although untreated larch wood has a long service life, this can be extended by many more years with the right care. Of course, not all influences go unnoticed on this hard wood.
Regular oiling protects the Siberian larch from drying out, moisture penetration and mechanical stress. The wood also stays beautiful longer. Hard wax oil has proven to be particularly effective, but it is pigment-free and does not prevent gray haze.
Raised bed made of larch
A raised bed made of larch is particularly stable and durable. The wood can be used without treatment as it can dry well after rain. The bed and its contents remain 100% natural.
