Cultivating larch free-standing is the best way to give this magnificent tree the attention it deserves. If it is given enough space from the start, there is nothing to complain about in the tree shape. On the contrary, a naturally grown larch is an attractive sight.

Such a tree in a solitary position does not require a topiary. Branches that have died or been snapped off by the wind may be removed promptly, regardless of the season.

Larch as hedge planting

Occasionally larches are also planted as a hedge. They need to be trimmed regularly to keep the hedge from getting out of shape and taking up more space than necessary. The larches should be pruned a year after planting because they branch out more. After that, the cut must be repeated annually.

Topiary on a bonsai larch
