Celery is primarily a winter vegetable, but it is available in supermarkets all year round. Due to their delicate skin, young stalks do not actually have to be peeled. They can be eaten raw in a salad or with a delicious dip. Older vegetables are usually used peeled due to their slightly firmer and fibrous skin.

Peeled celery is a healthy snack

Peel celery with these tips and tricks

First, cut off the bottom part of the plant so you can separate the individual stems. Then wash the stems under running water to remove any potting soil residue. Now cut off the bushy upper leaves, leaving only the stems. You can use the leaves later for a soup or as a decoration.

  1. Now hold each stick individually between your thumb and forefinger and use a sharp knife to cut off the top layer of skin from top to bottom. However, you will also remove a lot of tender meat this way.
  2. If you use a vegetable peeler, thinner layers can be removed.
  3. You can also try peeling the skin off in narrow threads. To do this, cut the skin at the upper end of the pole and pull off the thread-like skin using the knife and your thumb.
  4. In this way, the least of the tender vegetables is lost.
  5. Peel the celery stalk all over until all skin is removed.

Process celery sticks

After all the spears have been cleaned and peeled, you can nibble on the delicious raw vegetables, serve them in salads or cook them in soups or stews. The crunchy sticks are also suitable as a raw accompaniment to grilled food and are usually served with a spicy dip.

You can use the upper, leafy part of the celery plant in the kitchen to season and decorate dishes.
After cutting this part off the stalks, wash the fine leaves and pat dry with a kitchen towel. Now you can lay out the leaves on a tray or board and dry them for a few days. This results in a reserve of fine soup spices.
You also have the option to freeze the papers. To do this, they are first roughly chopped and then frozen in a suitable container.
