Garlic cucumbers are a real delicacy - but unfortunately they are also very expensive when bought in a shop. All the better that there are good ways to prepare the treat yourself. We'll tell you how you can pickle garlic cucumbers yourself!

Recipe for pickling garlic pickles
You need:
- small cucumbers (for pickling)
- 80ml of water
- 165 ml white wine vinegar
- 1 head of garlic
- 2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp white peppercorns
- dill
- rosemary
- basil
- sea-salt
- 10 g sugar*
- sterilized canning jars
* We advise you (in general) to refrain from conventional granulated sugar. For the sake of your health, you should use birch sugar instead. This one has a similarly strong sweetening effect but is better for your body.
How to pickle garlic pickles
- Thoroughly clean the small cucumbers under running water. Also use a brush for this.
- Dry the cucumbers with kitchen paper.
- Take a toothpick and poke several holes in the cucumber.
- Place the prepared cucumbers in a large bowl.
- Then fill the bowl with water to cover the cucumbers.
- Add some sea salt (by taste).
- Soak the cucumbers in salted water for 24 hours. Place the bowl in a cool, sheltered place (not in the fridge!).
- Remove all the cloves from the garlic bulb.
- Peel the garlic cloves carefully.
- Put the water, white wine vinegar, sugar, mustard and peppercorns in a saucepan.
- Boil the mixture briefly.
- Now add the garlic cloves to the broth.
- Boil the cloves in it for about 20 minutes to soften them up nicely.
- Remove the broth from the stove.
- Fish the garlic cloves out of the broth.
- Temporarily place the garlic cloves on a plate.
- Alternately layer cucumbers, herbs, and garlic cloves in mason jars.
- Briefly boil the stock again.
- Pour the hot liquid over the mixture in the glasses. Make sure that the contents are completely covered with the liquid.
- Close the jars tightly.
- Let the whole thing steep in a cool, dark place for at least four weeks - this is when the full aroma develops.
- Store the pickled garlic cucumbers in the refrigerator.
