Zucchini is a vegetable that is often underestimated. They harmonize with almost every basic ingredient - whether rice, pasta, potatoes, meat or pizza - and also get along well with many other types of vegetables. Sometimes the question arises whether you should core zucchini. The answer is: yes. In principle, you can leave the cores in and use them without hesitation. However, there are a few situations where you're better off eliminating them. In our article we will explain exactly what these are and how the gutting works in detail.

Zucchinis are relatively easy to core, but the pulp is also lost in the process

Potential reasons for coring zucchini

The following two reasons require that you core your zucchini:

  • first acquaintances of a baby with fresh vegetables
  • preparing stuffed zucchini

Familiarize baby with fresh zucchini

Do you have a baby that you want to start cooking and feeding fresh vegetables too? Then you should always check the cores of the zucchini at first. If these are small and inconspicuous, you do not need to remove them. On the other hand, if they present themselves quite stately, you should better get rid of them.

tips

Small zucchini also commonly contain tiny seeds. More prominent cores can only be found in correspondingly large zucchini. Consider this fact when purchasing.

Prepare stuffed zucchini

The second situation that makes it necessary to core zucchini relates to the type of preparation: if you want to cook stuffed zucchini, the cores inside are a hindrance - and should therefore be removed.

Core zucchini quickly and without much effort

It really isn't rocket science to remove the seeds from zucchini. All you need are the vegetables, a sharp knife and a tablespoon or teaspoon. Just follow our short step-by-step guide:

  1. Place the vegetables on a sturdy cutting board.
  2. Halve it with a sharp knife.
  3. Scoop out the seeds with a tablespoon or teaspoon.

The whole thing usually takes no longer than two or three minutes.

tips

There are also corers available in stores that are specially designed for zucchini - but you can really save the 20 euros, because it works just as well with a simple spoon, it may only take a moment longer.
