Make sure that a weigela also gets enough light in the hedge. This is necessary for a beautiful bloom. You can set special accents here with variegated varieties or a species with interesting autumn colors.
Take extra care when pruning a weigela hedge so you don't accidentally cut off the flower buds for the next flowering season. These form in the fall and not in the spring. Unfortunately, once the buds have been cut off, the next season for the pruned plant will be cancelled.
