Disposing of their dog's remains is a problem for dog owners. Opinions differ on the question of whether dog poop should be put on the compost. For reasons of hygiene, however, it is better not to compost the manure, but to dispose of it in some other way.

Can dog poop go in the compost?
Basically, dog poop is an organic material that decomposes and becomes humus. Nevertheless, it is not advisable to dispose of dog waste on the compost. There are various reasons for this:
- Dog poop stinks
- contains parasites
- may contain medication
Occasionally throwing a "dog sausage" on the compost is certainly not so tragic. However, the manure should not be composted regularly. This is especially true if the dog has been treated with medications such as antibiotics.
For many garden owners, the mere thought of digging around in dog poop compost with your hands later is very uncomfortable.
Why are you allowed to compost manure and not dog waste?
Fertilizing with manure from cattle, horses and sheep is practiced on a large scale. Why are these materials allowed to be composted and dog waste not?
When the manure decomposes, very high temperatures are generated. The heat kills bacteria and worms. After the rotting process, this compost no longer contains any harmful components.
Dog poop is different. Unlike cattle, horses and sheep, the dog is a carnivore. Dog droppings do not decompose at such high temperatures as herbivore droppings. Due to the low temperatures, worms and other parasites are not effectively killed and may later be contained in the hummus.
Burying dog poo in the garden
If you want to dispose of dog waste in an environmentally friendly way, simply bury it in the ground, for example in a flower bed or under trees. There it rots quickly. In this way, it also does not attract flies, mosquitoes or other unloved insects.
However, you should not dispose of dog excrement in beds with vegetables or fruit.
tips
Care should be taken when composting cat litter, even if it is compostable litter. Cat droppings may contain parasites that are not broken down in the compost.
