Glossy medlars have a moderate water requirement. If you cultivate your medlar in a bucket, the excess water should be able to drain out of the pot. In the garden, the water seeps through the well-loosened soil. Photinus do not like water on their leaves because the moist environment provides fungal spores with good growth conditions.

Young plants have a higher water requirement in the first two weeks than mature shrubs and hedges. The young stems need plenty of irrigation water to root. Ten to 20 liters of water per square meter are sufficient to provide the plants with moisture. Older plants need regular fresh water during long periods of drought.
