Care must always be taken when you want to freeze dairy products, as they have a different consistency after thawing. You can still use thawed yoghurt for cooking or baking - or you can enjoy it as frozen yoghurt.

Freeze yogurt to preserve it
Before you freeze yoghurt, you should transfer it to a freezer-safe container. The watery milk product expands as it freezes, so there's a chance the original yogurt pot might burst. It is therefore better to use boxes made of plastic or stainless steel that can be closed tightly with a lid. Screw-top jars are also suitable for freezing if you fill them no more than two-thirds full.
Label the container you chose with the date it was frozen and the contents. This way you don't lose track of the contents of your freezer and avoid having to throw away food that has been stored for too long. Spoon in the yoghurt, seal the box and place in the *** freezer. The yoghurt can be kept for up to six months beyond its stated best before date.
Once thawed, yogurt has a crumbly, grainy consistency, unlike high-fat dairy products. As a result, it is only suitable for pure consumption to a limited extent. However, it can still be used for cake batters or for stirring into sauces.
Make frozen yogurt
Frozen yogurt tastes much better. The healthy alternative to ice cream is bang on trend and easy to make at home. If you have an ice cream maker, it's particularly easy, but frozen yoghurt can also be prepared in the freezer. Low-fat yoghurt is just as suitable for this as yoghurt with a higher fat content and fruit yoghurt.
- Stir the yogurt until smooth and creamy.
- Refine it to taste with pureed fruit and some powdered sugar.
- Put the yoghurt mixture in a sufficiently large freezer box and place it in the *** freezer compartment.
- Give the mixture a good stir every half hour or so so that it stays creamy and doesn't freeze into a massive lump.
- Refine your homemade frozen yoghurt with toppings such as nuts, fresh fruit or sauces before consumption and enjoy it frozen.
