If you create the flower bed with stones, you not only achieve a modern, attractive result, but also reduce the maintenance effort. Not only do the stones form an interesting contrast to the lush sea of flowers, weeds don't stand a chance here either.

preparation
A sun-kissed and rather dry place in the garden is best suited for a stone bed. If the location is too damp and too dark, you can quickly get problems with moss. Once the right place has been chosen, dig a pit about 15 centimeters deep and fill it with a mixture of the excavation, plenty of compost and horn shavings.(32.93€) Lining with a weed film is recommended to prevent growth unwanted plants - especially stubborn root weeds - to reduce from the outset. The stones themselves are arranged directly on the fleece, whereby the larger specimens always belong at the bottom and should be stabilized with heaped sand.

In principle, all plants are suitable for the stone bed, unless they are extremely wet room plants. However, drought-resistant plants feel most comfortable here. In particular, flowers and perennials from the Mediterranean region such as lavender are perfect. Roses, pitch pinks, noble rhombuses, ornamental onions and junker lilies provide a colorful variety. Flowering shrubs and grasses, bulb flowers and ground cover (e.g. creeping cranesbill or thyme) also fit into the stone bed.

When creating the stone bed, the rule applies that the stones are laid out first and the plants are planted later. Either leave the areas to be planted free from the start or remove the stones down to the bottom. Cut the fleece in a cross shape and plant the plant in the planting hole. Now fill this up with soil, press the plant down well and distribute the stones around the plant again. After the bed has been completely planted, you should water it thoroughly with the water hose. You should also water regularly later, because the plants in stone beds are quickly plagued by thirst.
tips
Frame a traditional flower bed with rocks to keep it from overhanging the edge. This limitation also makes later care easier because you can mow the lawn more easily thanks to the edge.
