Not every hobby gardener has a lot of time for garden maintenance. Nevertheless, you do not have to do without your own garden, because you can also make many beds easy to care for and make your work easier with a few tricks.

Maintain the vegetable patch
Vegetable beds often need a lot of care. After sowing or planting, sufficient moisture must be provided for germination or growth and the bed must be kept weed-free. Daily watering is just as important here as regular weed plucking.
Create a bed that is easy to care for
A bed is particularly easy to care for if the plants have been selected according to the existing conditions, i.e. sun-loving plants in a sunny bed and shade-loving plants in the shade. Using ground covers and/or a layer of bark mulch will prevent soil erosion and help retain moisture in the soil. Some plants need regular pruning, others don't. You should also consider this when making your selection.
General care tips for beds
You might think it doesn't matter when and how plants are watered, as long as they get enough water. However, this is not the case. Many plants do not tolerate water on their leaves very well. They get ugly spots or even suffer from leaf rot. Therefore, always water down to the roots and not just the whole plant from above.
Watering in the morning and/or evening hours is also recommended, not in the blazing midday heat. This will prevent you from being burned by water droplets on the leaves. Fertilize your plants as much as necessary, but at the same time as little as possible. Over-fertilization can cause more damage than is often assumed. You can remove weeds not only by plucking but also by careful and thorough hoeing.
The most important care measures in brief:
- watering in the morning and/or evening hours
- do not pour on the leaves but on the roots
- Fertilize plants as needed
- Careful choice of location reduces maintenance costs
- regularly pluck weeds, alternatively chop them if necessary
tips
If you don't have a lot of time for gardening, create a few low-maintenance beds instead of giving up the pleasure of a garden of your own.
