A brook babbling through the garden can be created in various ways. A very simple method is to lay out ready-made stream bowls. A stream bed made of concrete, on the other hand, can be designed a little more creatively and therefore more individually, since the shapes are not already specified here.

You don't have to look at the stream to see that it's made of concrete

Planning and preparatory activities

Before construction begins, there is careful planning so that the brook actually meanders through the garden as desired. Precise planning and execution is particularly important when working with concrete, after all mistakes cannot be straightened out so quickly here - the material can only be removed with difficulty or even corrected. You should pay particular attention to the following when planning and preparing your project:

  • Slopes of at least two to three percent to keep the water flowing
  • If there is no slope, one must be created.
  • This can be done, for example, with the excavation of a garden pond planned at the same time.
  • The greater the gradient, the faster the water flows.
  • Then the installation of barrages or waterfalls makes sense.
  • No babbling brook without a powerful pump.
  • Pump performance is calculated according to width, length and water flow.
  • Ergo, first determine the dimensions of the stream, then buy the right pump!

You should also have sand / gravel and natural stones (e.g. pebbles of different sizes) and bank or water plants in stock. With these materials, the concrete stream bed can then be designed naturally.

Create and concrete a stream

Before digging out the bed of the creek, first mark the exact position of the creek. Laying out the course of the line with the help of a rope or something similar has often proven to be helpful. At best, you have already outlined the specific dimensions and the progression in a plan; if necessary, this can still be corrected after a visual check.

  • Now dig out the creek bed.
  • Remove plants, roots and stones.
  • The stream bed should be dug about 10 to 15 centimeters deeper.
  • Make sure it's evenly deep - the width, on the other hand, can vary.
  • Tread the ground firmly.
  • At the bottom comes a weed fleece, (21.70 €) over a layer of gravel as a base.
  • This is also fastened well.
  • Only now do you mix the concrete and pour out the stream bed with it.
  • Model the creek bed with the help of a mason's trowel and other suitable tools.

Don't forget to waterproof the concrete. This can be done by adding sealing powder or covering the finished work with sealing mud or liquid pond liner. Allow the material to dry thoroughly before flooding the creek bed with water.

tips

Press the natural stones into the still wet concrete so that they hold better after hardening.
