An artificial stream always consists of three components: source, path and destination. The path is the course of the stream in the true sense of the word, while the source and destination each mark its endpoints.

A good pump is a prerequisite for a beautiful, functional watercourse

No stream without a stream pump

Since the artificial stream is a never-ending cycle, the water of which flows from the source to the destination and is transported back from there, the indispensable stream pump is the actual source. There are different models to choose from here, which you choose according to size, water flow and needs:

  • Submersible pumps: can be accommodated in a reservoir or pond and are protected from frost in winter if the water depth is sufficient. Disadvantage: Not or only partially suitable for fish ponds.
  • Stream pump with filter: Particularly suitable for streams with integrated fish ponds. Guarantee consistently high water quality.
  • Stream pump without filter: if there are no fish swimming in the pond or there is no pond
  • Solar-powered stream pump: saves electricity

The pump is always installed at the lowest point at the end of the stream, because its job is to pump the water back up to the source. Submerge the pump either in the pond or in a pit below the surface of the water. The water itself flows back through a hose dug into the side of the creek. Never attach the return hose directly under the creek bed: If this ever needs to be repaired, the entire creek can be dug up.

Make the stream source attractive

Although the brook is fed from the return hose, it can still be designed to be visually appealing - in such a way that the said hose is not noticeable. To do this, you can integrate its end, for example, into a spring stone, a spring bowl or similar, from which the water then gushes. Incidentally, you can easily make such a source stone yourself: All you need is a chunk of stone in the desired shape and size, through which you can use a suitable tool to drill a hole of a size that matches the diameter of the hose.

tips

You can completely do without a pump and thus without a spring if you have a dry stream - i. H. completely without water - create. Made of natural stones and planted accordingly, this "little brook" also has a very atmospheric effect.
