But even if this rose loves the sun, it does not tolerate a hot, sheltered place - for example in front of a bright south wall - only badly. What should the soil for Baccara roses be like?

Baccara roses do best in a humic, nutrient-rich, deep and well-drained soil. Sandy loam or loamy sandy soils that are easy to work with are ideal. Sandy soils can be improved with rock flour (€14.13), heavy soils, on the other hand, are loosened up with sand or gravel. Do not work in compost when planting roses!

  • Water the rose deeply.

What planting distance do Baccara roses need?

Roses, and the Baccara rose is no exception, are considered weak in competition and cannot do anything with neighboring plants that are planted too densely: On the contrary, they usually quickly start to get sick. Therefore, keep a distance of at least 1.2 meters, preferably up to two meters, and never place the shrub under a tree.

Never plant Baccara or other roses in a location where roses have previously stood. The phenomenon of soil fatigue often (not always) occurs, during which the newly planted rose withers and dies. If roses are still to be planted at the said location, a soil replacement is necessary beforehand. Alternatively, you can plant other plants for about five to six years and wait until the soil has recovered.
