Redesigning a bed or an entire garden is great fun, but also a lot of work. So that this is not in vain in the end, you should plan your project well before you take action.

Garden beds can also be laid out in a round shape

A small bed is created within a short time, a large one needs a little more time. In addition, the plants you choose should match the planned location so that you are satisfied with the result of your work. Shade-loving plants burn easily in the sun, while sun-loving species rarely or never bloom in the shade.

The right preparation

If you want to redesign a bed, then you probably already have an idea of what it should look like. But there may still be a few questions. If it is already clear which plants should grow in the new bed, then choose the place according to your needs.

The border of the bed

Various materials are available for the design of your bed edging. A border made of stone is very durable and easy to care for. It does not have to be expensive, but it is usually quite labor-intensive to produce. A bed border made of wood is often easier to build, but less weather-resistant. Alternatively, a bed can also be bordered very well with boxwood or herbs.

The easy-care bed

If you don't have a lot of time or desire to do gardening, it's best to create a low-maintenance bed. This can be achieved, for example, by selecting easy-care plants. Ground covers ensure that hardly any weeds can grow on the bed. Covering the bed with bark mulch has similar effects.

Step by step to the new garden bed:

  • Specify bed type: vegetable or flower bed
  • Select and measure space
  • Stake the bed
  • possibly clearing the lawn
  • Dig up or loosen the bed
  • Remove weeds, roots and stones
  • Create bed edging
  • use plants
  • water well

tips

The more you think about it beforehand, the easier it will be to take care of your new garden bed later.
