With several small and large ponds and a connecting watercourse, a homely atmosphere can be created in the garden - especially when the artificial water bodies are planted and perhaps also fished. We have created for you the possibilities of connecting two garden ponds with each other.

Advantages of a connection between two ponds
Such a connection between two (or more) ponds has great advantages: Not only does the entire ensemble appear more harmonious as a unit, the stream can also be used as a natural filter for water purification - especially with the right plant stock. This is especially important when there are fish swimming in one of the ponds and there is a need to regularly filter out pollutants and oxygenate the water. Flowing water is ideal as a water filter, and the installation of barrages and small rapids also creates a turbulence, during which the water is saturated with plenty of fresh oxygen.
Possibilities of a connection between ponds
If two garden ponds are to be connected by a stream, one of the two should be at a slightly higher level. The upper pond practically overflows, the water passes through the stream, gets into the lower pond and is pumped back up with the help of a pump. If such a slope does not exist, the waters can of course also be on one level. But then the pump power (and thus the power consumption) must be significantly higher.
Prefabricated ponds made of plastic shells
Many garden owners use ready-made plastic shells for pond construction, which only have to be inserted into the dug pit and filled. These shells would have to be cut for a connection, for example by flexing part of the edge. However, this makes the finished pond unstable and leaky, which is why this possibility should be avoided. However, you can use prefabricated ponds with an overflow already installed and then use this to connect a watercourse.
Self-made pond systems
It is easier to connect to self-made pond systems that
- bricked
- or filled with concrete
- and then laid out with pond liner
will. In a new building, ponds and streams can be built from the same materials, although care should be taken when building later. This is not only for aesthetic reasons, but also ensures a better sealing option.
tips
Concrete alone is not waterproof and needs an additional, impermeable waterproofing.
