Not every ornamental onion can be planted in every spot in your garden without hesitation, most varieties prefer a very sunny location. This also applies to the rather impressive giant leek. Only there will it actually show its spherical flowers.

Ornamental onions grow and bloom best in well-drained and rather dry soil. He does not tolerate waterlogging at all. Two exceptions should be mentioned, both wild garlic and golden garlic tolerate slightly moist soil and partial shade. Both types remain quite small, the wild garlic with its delicate white flowers also quite inconspicuous.
The essentials in brief:
- sunny for most species
- Soil: permeable and rather dry
- Exceptions: wild garlic and golden garlic: sunny to semi-shady, slightly moist soil is also possible
- no waterlogging
tips
Golden garlic and wild garlic are best suited for partially shaded areas and slightly moist soil.
