Japanese maples - picturesque foliage for the front yard
The generic term Japanese maples combines three Asian species whose unique attributes cause a sensation in the front yard. Slotted maple (Acer palmatum), Japanese maple (Acer japonicum) and golden maple (Acer shirasawanum) inspire with filigree leaves in beautiful summer colors and spectacular autumn colors. Be inspired by the following varieties:
- Sangokaku: coral-red bark, red-edged leaves, golden-yellow fall color; 400-600 cm high, 70-90 cm wide
- Dissectum Garnet: dark red, deeply dissected leaves, flaming red autumn colours; 100-150 cm high and wide
- Orange Dream: shoots with crimson edges, green-yellow leaves, bright golden-orange in autumn; 150-180cm high
- Aureum: white-red flowers, golden-yellow leaves, orange-red autumn colour; 200-350 cm high and wide
The Japanese fan maple "Shaina" is one of the box office hits. A bright red shoot marks the start of the spectacle of colour. In the course of summer, the deeply slit foliage shimmers from chestnut to dark red, only to bid farewell to a rich crimson in autumn.
Kugelahorn Globosum - parade tree for the front yard
The prime variety for the front garden is a descendant of the native Norway maple (Acer platanoides). Thanks to a combination of a slender trunk and a round crown, the spherical maple Globosum is one of the most popular house trees. With an average growth height of 300 to 450 cm, the maple adorns small areas without being dominant. In autumn, the elegant tree with a golden yellow coloring of the decorative leaves still attracts everyone's attention.
Thanks to growth of 15 to 20 cm per year, the harmonious crown shape is retained for many years without the need for regular pruning.
tips
Maple trees with a slender trunk and shapely crown come into their own with underplanting. Small periwinkles (Vinca minor), elf flowers (Epimedium) or heart-leaved foam flowers (Tiarella cordifolia) cannot be prevented from flowering, densely compact growth by the partially shaded location and the root pressure of maple trees.
