Responsible waste disposal through recycling leaves us with a bevy of large, unsightly garbage cans in the front yard. This necessity does not mean that the containers spoil the appearance. Read here 3 tips for a decorative hide-and-seek game.

Tip 1: Plants as privacy screens
With privacy plants, you can create a low-priced, opaque hiding place for your rubbish bins. In addition, this variant can be excellently embedded in the overall picture of your front garden design. The following plants have proven to be excellent for this purpose:
- Pruning-compatible conifers, such as yew (Taxus baccata) or arborvitae (Thuja
- Evergreen deciduous shrubs, such as boxwood (Buxus sempervirens) or cherry laurel (Prunus laurocerasus)
- Tall grasses such as non-stoloniferous bamboo (Fargesia murielae) or heavenly bamboo (Nandina domestica)
Your garbage cans in the front yard become invisible behind a green chain link fence (€34.49). Reach for evergreen climbing plants here, so that privacy is guaranteed throughout the year. Suitable plants are ivy (Hedera helix) or the evergreen clematis (Clematis armandii), which put on a fragrant, white flower dress in spring.
Tip 2: Conceal with opaque walls
In the small front garden, man-high privacy plants and hedges go beyond the dimensions. Space-saving and lean solutions are required here. Walls made of natural materials such as wood, reed or bamboo are very popular to hide garbage cans behind them. Since such constructions offer a large surface area for wind to attack, stable attachment with screws or point foundations in the ground is important.
Specialist shops have ready-made boxes made of wood or plastic ready for you. These can be installed on site in just a few simple steps and banish the garbage cans from view.
Tip 3: Sink in the ground - ingenious but expensive
The luxury version of the rubbish bin hiding place sinks the bins into the ground without further ado. The electrical system allows the waste bins to disappear from the front yard at the push of a button. The cover is not only walkable, but also supports a load of up to 130 kg, so that bicycles can be conveniently parked here. So much luxury has its price. A system for 2 large garbage cans costs about 3,500 euros, plus installation.
tips
Use the path to the garbage can hiding place to create visual depth with its help. Instead of a dead straight course, create the entrance in a curved form. In contrast to the 120 cm wide access towards the entrance door, a slim 60 cm path width is completely sufficient here.
