With boxwood you draw decorative garden pictures in your front yard. Whether as an elegant, evergreen enclosure, a spectacular sculpture or an elegant guardian of the entrance - boxwood opens up a wide range of creative ideas for you. Let yourself be inspired here for your individual design plan.

Box trees can be cut and shaped as you like

A front yard as if painted - this is how it works with boxwood

With boxwood hedges, you can give your front garden sweeping shapes as if they came from a painter's easel. Thanks to its pronounced pruning tolerance, lettering can even be drawn in the bed with the evergreen ornamental wood. Perfect for artistic use is Buxus sempervirens 'Blauer Heinz' with compact growth up to a maximum height of 50 cm. How to realize your design idea:

  • Create a true-to-scale drawing of the course of the hedge
  • Trace the course of the boxwood hedge in the bed with ropes
  • Dig small planting pits along the marking at a distance of 15-20 cm
  • Enrich the excavation with compost and horn meal
  • Pot, plant and water the box trees

A little patience is required until the evergreen trees gather to form a dense, compact hedge. Annual growth is limited to a leisurely 5 to 10 cm. From the second or third year, you give the box trees the desired shape with a pruning and control the growth in the desired direction.

Boxwood sculpture as a leading figure - a shapely replacement for the house tree

The space for the front garden of a semi-detached house is often so tight that there is not enough space even for small trees. Thanks to boxwood, you don't have to do without a floral figurehead. The cutting compatibility of the noble shrub enables the shape cut to a furious garden figure.

The specialist trade has templates in all variants ready for you. Put this over the boxwood and simply cut off any protruding branches with rose or sheep shears. Between April and September a trimming every 4 weeks is possible without any problems. It is important to note that there is always a remnant of the fresh green below the cut for new shoots.

tips

Evergreen boxwood is perfect for hiding garbage cans in the front yard. Use the boxwood species Buxus sempervirens to create a slender, high hedge that does not allow prying eyes. A well-groomed appearance is preserved if you carry out a topiary in May.
