An attractive design of the garden is important so that you and your guests enjoy staying in it. A raised bed can simply be set up on the lawn - or it can become an integral part of the overall design concept and fit in harmoniously.

Raised beds made of wood look good in most gardens

Raised beds structure the garden

A raised bed divides a garden area into different areas and thus creates an interesting relaxation. Raised beds, for example, provide a very advantageous way of dividing particularly large gardens with level garden areas into different garden areas. A walk through the garden is always an exciting experience. In hillside gardens, on the other hand, raised beds create level planting sites where previously there were only sloping surfaces. In smaller gardens, cozy retreats can be created using raised beds with integrated seating elements, for example near the terrace.

Raised beds in small gardens

Properly designed and installed raised beds allow the cultivation of vegetables, fruit and ornamental plants even in tiny terraced house gardens. For this purpose, group rectangular raised beds in a T, U or L shape or arrange them strictly in mirror image as in old baroque gardens. However, round bed shapes require more space. However, round raised beds of different heights can also be visually very appealing in small garden areas.

The different design elements

Raised beds can essentially be integrated well into a garden thanks to four properties. The centerpiece is of course the varied planting. The various building materials from which the raised bed frame can be created offer interesting possibilities. And last but not least, individual beds can become focal points with different shapes and colors, which blend harmoniously into the design concept of the garden.

The shape of the raised bed

Who actually says that raised beds always have to be rectangular or square? A round or honeycomb raised bed is an eye-catcher in the garden simply because of its shape. Curved, for example kidney-shaped, bed shapes are also unusual. Such forms can be realized relatively easily with gabions, but metal, wickerwork, discarded roof tiles, natural stone or various prefabricated kits can also enclose round raised beds. A very simple method are concrete manhole rings.

coloring

Natural materials such as wickerwork, fine woods or natural stones captivate with their subtle colors and blend into elegant designs all by themselves. Raised beds made of boards or pallet raised beds, on the other hand, can be staged without much effort by painting them. You can also creatively design raised beds made of concrete walls or rings with paint or mosaic stones. Always use environmentally friendly and weather-resistant paints for your colorful work.

tips

If you want to turn your raised bed into a green privacy screen, you can attach trellis and let vines, climbing roses or perennial creepers crawl up it.
