The cost of a garden pond is similar to buying a car or real estate. The greater the desire, the higher the cost will be. And: If you don't want to or can't build it yourself, you're in better hands with an experienced gardening company and on the safe side.

The costs vary greatly depending on the size and material of the garden pond

First of all, a good amount of work and, of course, money. It is not only the construction that causes costs, because a garden pond needs to be planted, you want a pump, maybe you plan to use fish, maybe you want to clear your pond water from time to time and maybe you are even thinking about an additional water feature with effective lighting? Finally, the size of the pond, its design and the materials used are also decisive cost factors.

Construction standard - the better the more expensive

But is it now 500, -, over 1,000, - or even several thousand euros that the garden pond will cost? A point of reference, at least for rough financial planning, would be desirable. We looked at a few examples of this at one company:

  • Terrace pond made of foil with shore zone: 2.00 by 1.50 meters with 30 plants from 165 euros or with 15 plants with a size of 3.00 by 1.50 meters from 235 euros;
  • High pond with light metal construction: wood look, foil on the inside, 1.06 by 1.06 meters (50 cm high) from approx. 500 euros to just under 750 euros (2.11 by 1.06 meters and 50 cm high) ;
  • Mini natural pond: 8 m2 of water surface with 4 m3 content made of 30 m2 of pond liner and with 50 plants at a price from 265.00 (cheap version) to 845.00 euros (in the usual construction);
  • Small natural pond: 19 m2 of water surface with 13 m3 content of 48 m2 of pond liner including 75 pond plants for just over 400 euros (cheap version), usual construction around 1,300 euros;
  • Small biotope or stable natural pond: with 32 m2 surface and 26 m2 content, made of 120 m2 pond liner with 150 pond plants from approx. 930 euros or in the most common design and equipment for almost 2,850 euros.

If special equipment requests are added, you have already reached a five-digit investment volume for a larger fish pond, which - if you add the value of your working time - could only be compensated for to a small extent by personal contributions.

If you are planning more than just a mini pond the size of a bird bath, a prefabricated pond is out of the question and you have little experience in pond construction, it makes sense to first have non-binding price offers from several companies.
