- Algae control from the aquarium trade
Even if algae can never be completely kept away, with natural garden pond algae eaters you have the chance that their mass spread will be kept within limits. If you combine snails, mussels and crustaceans in a sensible way, you will soon have the annoying algae invasion under control.

Although they are part of the life of the pond, like the water, the enjoyment of algae is very limited for most owners. There are certainly technical and chemical problem solvers for this, but none of them prevent the algae plague from becoming acute again after a few weeks. Remain the biological algae eaters, whose usefulness, however, must also be viewed critically with regard to their excretions, which will accumulate on the pond bottom.
Snail insert against algae bloom
The mud snail in particular is known for being very active in devouring algae. It even leaves the aquatic plants alone and, as the only one of its kind in our latitudes, not only eliminates the green plague growing on the ground, but even the filamentous algae. The pointed mud snail, which immediately attaches its spawning cords to the aquatic plants, grows a little larger at seven centimeters up to 200 more algae eaters developthat can live up to four years.
Small but mighty - crustaceans and mussels
These useful algae eaters, such as pond mussels, are able to filter around a thousand liters of pond water every day and even eliminate small micro and floating algae in a natural way. With a size of up to 20 cm, these animals grow very impressively. As real biofilters, they tolerate temperatures between 4 and 28 °C also like to socialize with the other pond inhabitants, i.e. fish, snails or shrimp. Not to forget the freshwater shrimp, which feed on floating algae, especially when they are young, and thereby produce several hundred larvae themselves, which will later help to eliminate the algae. They are also winter-proof, although the fish pond should not ice up on the surface if possible.
Algae control from the aquarium trade

- Glimmerlabeo: a type of barbel from India for around 4.00 euros each;
- Dwarf shrimp, such as the Yellow Fire Neon for about 5.00 euros.
