If the old arbor has become weathered and unsightly, the only option is usually the final demolition. As a rule, you can easily dismantle and dispose of the small house yourself. However, there are a few points to consider, which we would like to go into a little more detail in our article.

Sometimes demolition is the only option

The preparations

  • It is extremely useful if you still have the old assembly instructions to hand. This shows how the house was built. The dismantling is then simply carried out in reverse order.
  • Get a suitable vehicle or trailer, because the demolition will generate a lot of bulky waste. Ask the municipality which recycling center in the area accepts the pre-sorted building materials.
  • Alternatively, you can have a construction container delivered to you.
  • Ask friends for help. Even if the hut appears unstable, this work can become a feat of strength due to rusted nails and heavy parts.

The demolition

First remove the roof covering and the roof. The walls and, if they are no longer used, the floor slab will then be dismantled.

The disposal

Pre-sort all parts of the garden shed:

The recycling center takes glass, bitumen shingles or roofing felt. This also applies to wood that has to be separated again:

  • Class A1: Natural and exclusively mechanically pretreated wood.
  • Class A2: Lacquered, painted or glued wood.
  • Class A3: Coated wood.
  • Class A4: Wood treated with wood preservatives.

Metal such as nails, screws or gutters can often be handed in at the regional scrap dealer for face value. If this is not the case, the recycling center is also responsible.

tips

Demolition by a company is much less complicated but also more expensive. If you choose this route, be sure to get quotes from different companies. The prices can differ by several hundred euros, which you would certainly prefer to invest in the new gazebo.
