- The right soil mixture for golden fruit palms
Gold fruit palms are comparatively easy to propagate. The tree, also called Areca palm, can be grown from seed. It's even easier and much faster if you pull a gold fruit palm from offshoots. This is how the propagation of the golden fruit palm works.

Propagating golden fruit palm from seed
Propagating a golden fruit palm from seed is not easy. You also need a lot of patience until a real Areca palm has grown from a seed. Above all, the temperatures and lighting conditions must be taken into account.
- Allow seeds to swell
- sow in prepared pots
- cover lightly with soil
- set up bright and warm
- keep evenly moist
- cover with plastic wrap if necessary
The seeds of the golden fruit palm are sown in spring. The temperatures must be at least 18 degrees for the seed to germinate.
Grow new golden fruit palms from offshoots
Propagating a gold fruit palm from offshoots is much easier and doesn't take that long. You need a mother plant that has already formed bottom shoots. These ground shoots must be at least 30 centimeters high and already have a few roots.
Cut off the ground shoots in spring and place them in prepared pots. Wrap the cuttings in cling film to ensure even soil moisture. You should air the film once a day to avoid mold growth.
Place the cuttings in a bright, warm location for four to six weeks. But avoid direct sunlight. As soon as new fronds form, you know that the propagation of the golden fruit palm worked, because then new roots have developed. The palm tree propagated in this way is now cared for like an adult plant.
The right soil mixture for golden fruit palms
Either put the offshoots in special palm soil or make a mixture of compost soil, sand and gravel yourself. The plant substrate should only be slightly acidic. A pH of six is ideal.
tips
The golden fruit palm owes its name to the fruits, which are actually golden yellow in color. However, the Areca palm only develops flowers and fruits under very favorable climatic conditions. In our latitudes it is too cool and too dark for that.
