The spiny fruit is a genus of plants native mainly to the tropical areas of South Africa and Madagascar. These plants are correspondingly heat-loving. Many varieties and hybrids bred from them are often used as houseplants.

The spiny fruit got its name from the shape of its fruits, which are twisted in a spiral. The flowers are often bicolored and their appearance is very reminiscent of orchids. They compensate the owner for the not very easy maintenance. The spiny fruit is also traded under the names velvet bells or African violets.
A brief overview of the different varieties of the rotary fruit
The flower colors of the turning fruit are diverse. With a growth height of about 25 to 30 cm and three-colored flowers, the "Harlequin" variety is one of the particularly decorative specimens. But "Asia" is also impressive, here the white flowers are pretty curled.
The "Streptocarpus saxorum" variety also has whitish flowers, but with a delicate purple throat. “Iona” is very striking. The deep red flowers are edged in dark blue and can be seen for up to ten months of the year. All of these varieties are of course not hardy and are more likely to be found as indoor plants in this country.
What should I look out for when buying a spinneret?
So that you can enjoy your rotary fruit for a long time, you should only buy a healthy plant. If it's already damaged before it arrives in your living room, it may be difficult to save. Your new cassava should have brightly colored and unbroken leaves. Pale or torn leaves are an exclusion criterion. The substrate is slightly damp but not wet. The more buds the plant has, the longer it will bloom.
Interesting varieties of the turning fruit:
- "Harlequin": three-colored flowers, beautiful, height of growth approx. 25 to 35 cm
- “Roulette Cherry”: Trumpet flowers with a pink border and a white throat, approx. 30 to 35 cm high

- 'Streptocarpus saxorum': delicate purple colored throat in whitish flowers
