A money tree is only transplanted into a larger pot every three to four years. Nevertheless, you should check every year whether the old planter is still big enough. When is the time to repot and what do you have to consider?

The money tree rarely needs to be repotted

When does the penny tree have to be repotted?

Time for repotting is always when the old pot is completely rooted. To check this, carefully remove the money tree from the pot.

The best time for repotting is spring, when the penny tree's main growing season begins.

If repotting is not yet necessary, carefully shake off the old substrate and plant the money tree back into the previously cleaned pot. Fill in fresh soil so that the plant has sufficient support.

Choose a stable planter

The leaves of the money tree retain moisture. They are accordingly quite heavy, so that a pot that is too small and too light quickly tips over. Ceramic planters that have sufficient weight are ideal.

The pot must have a drainage hole so that excess water can drain away. A money tree does not forgive waterlogging.

Therefore, it can make sense to create a drainage made of gravel at the bottom of the pot.

How to repot the money tree

  • Carefully pot the money tree
  • shake off old substrate
  • Carefully loosen roots
  • put in new pot
  • Fill up and press on the substrate

When transplanting into a larger pot, carefully loosen the roots. Cut off dried or rotten roots.

Fill the new pot with fresh substrate and carefully insert the penny tree. Fill in enough soil to cover the roots well, pressing down gently.

Care after repotting

After repotting, do not place the money tree in direct sunlight for two to three weeks.

In the first few months, the penny tree is sufficiently supplied with nutrients. You don't have to fertilize it for at least three months.

tips

The money tree prefers a sunny location where it is sufficiently warm. Temperatures between 20 and 27 degrees are ideal. It must not get colder than five degrees on the pitch.
