The Japanese azalea is closely related to the rhododendron, but in contrast to this often only summer green. However, the hardy shrub inspires with an abundance of large flowers, which are available in many different colors. The most common are tones in the pink and red spectrum, but yellow or white flowers can also be found.

Flowering time of the Japanese azalea depends on the variety
Like the rhododendron, azaleas also flower primarily in late spring, although the specific flowering times depend on the variety. Most Japanese azaleas flower between April and May, with some flowering well into June. Incidentally, you can prolong the flowering period if you remove faded leaves by breaking them out, especially with young plants. Be careful not to damage the growing, still soft shoots.
tips
In order for Japanese azaleas to bloom profusely, they need to be fertilized regularly. Start fertilizing at the beginning of the growing season - ergo in March - and continue until October.
