If a plant looks unusual, seems limp, or suddenly develops brown or yellow leaves, then this is usually a cause for concern, including indoor palms. However, the reasons for this can be very diverse. Go in search of clues.

The causes of brown leaves in the house palm
A disease is not always behind the changed appearance, care mistakes are often to blame for a discoloration of the leaves. Since there are many different types of indoor palms, some of which require special care, you should already know exactly which palm tree you own.
Sunburn is also a common cause of brown spots on leaves. This occurs when you leave your palm tree in the sun for too long or pour water on the leaves in bright sunshine. But sometimes there is also a fungal disease behind the brown spots.
How to help your indoor palm
If you have watered your palm tree sufficiently and the soil is not wet either, then think about the humidity. If this is too low, your indoor palm will suffer and become dry. Spraying the palm tree with low-lime water immediately helps here. A massive fungal infestation, on the other hand, can only be effectively combated with fungicides (antifungal agents).
When the air is dry, there is often an infestation with pests, because the spider mite loves an airy and dry climate. A window sill above the heating offers ideal conditions for propagation. Be sure to set up an air humidifier here or spray your plants regularly with lukewarm, low-lime water.
To avoid sunburn, slowly acclimate your indoor palm to the spring sun. Avoid the midday sun for the first few days and only water the palm tree in the shade. At night, the palm tree belongs back in the house for the time being. Some species, such as the phoenix palm, are welcome to spend the summer in the garden.
The essentials in brief:
- water sufficiently
- ensure high humidity
- protect against sunburn
- older leaves turn brown before falling
tips
Browning of the lower leaves on your indoor palms is rarely a cause for concern. As long as new leaves grow on top, this is a completely normal process of growth.
