Thanks to its robust constitution and uncomplicated care, beginners like to choose a butterfly orchid. Looking at the rough substrate made of pieces of bark, the obvious question is how to properly water a Phalaenopsis. Read how to do it right here.

Diving is better than pouring
The butterfly orchid thrives as an epiphyte in tropical rainforests. Rapid action is required here in order to extract the vital moisture from the short, heavy rain showers. After just a few minutes, the last tropes have fallen to the ground again. You can simulate this natural process by diving Phalaenopsis. That is how it goes:
- If the aerial roots shimmer creamy white due to drought, there is a need for watering
- Pour soft, lukewarm water into a bucket
- Dip the butterfly orchid in it
When no more air bubbles rise, drain the water well. Only then do you put the plant back in the cachepot.
