Many palm species do not develop flowers when grown purely as houseplants. It is different with the mountain palm. After just a few years, it gets its first flower even as a pure houseplant. If you're lucky, you can even harvest seeds.

The mountain palm can also flower as a houseplant

Does the mountain palm flower as a houseplant?

In a favorable location and with appropriate care, the first blossoms of the mountain palm appear after two to three years.

In order for seeds to develop from the flower, which you can use to propagate the plant, you need several mountain palms. Only then is it relatively certain that you are caring for male and female plants.

To obtain germinable seeds, brush over each flower several times with a brush to fertilize it.

tips

If fertilized successfully, the mountain palm initially forms green seeds. They turn black after a while and then fall off. The seed has a very hard shell and needs to be watered before sowing.
