One of the mainstays in the professional care of orchids is the temperature at the location. For your orientation, we have compiled the ideal day and night temperatures in summer and winter for popular species.

Recommended temperatures at a glance
Normal room temperatures are not always sufficient to elicit the optimum flowering power from your orchid. The ideal heat scale for popular orchid species is based on more precise values:
orchid species | summer by day | summer at night | winter temperature |
---|---|---|---|
Asco center | 25-27ºC | 20-22ºC | 17-22ºC |
cattleya | 25-30ºC | 18-22ºC | 18-20ºC |
Cymbidium | 15-30℃ | 15-30℃ | 15-18ºC |
dendrobium | 20-30℃ | 20-30℃ | 20-25ºC |
Miltonia | 17-22ºC | 17-22ºC | 15-18ºC |
Phalaenopsis | 20-25ºC | 18-25ºC | 15-25ºC |
odontoglossum | 20-22ºC | 18-22ºC | 12-22ºC |
oncidium | 23-25ºC | 15-20℃ | 15-18ºC |
vanda | 25-27ºC | 20-22ºC | 17-22ºC |
It is important to note that orchids are not exposed to temperature fluctuations of more than 5 degrees Celsius. With a minimum-maximum thermometer you can easily understand whether this premise is fulfilled at the selected location.
No bloom without light
The ideal temperature level alone is not enough to encourage the queen of flowers to bloom magnificently. The high expectations are only met in combination with bright lighting conditions without the blazing midday sun in summer.
tips
With a targeted temperature fluctuation, you promote the new blossoming of Phalaenopsis. For this purpose, the orchid stays in a bright, cool room with temperatures between 15 and 16 degrees Celsius from the fourth week after the last flower fall. If the noble houseplant returns to its normal location after 6 weeks, the fresh buds will not be long in coming.
