The easy-care and hardy holly is a nature reserve, so it must not be cut and/or dug up in nature. You can also get the Ilex in specialist shops and if it is in your garden, you can also multiply it.

Holly feels best in a sunny spot

In the garden give the holly a bright spot with slightly moist soil. It should be sunny or slightly shaded, then the holly will grow better. You should definitely avoid waterlogging, as well as calcareous soil or calcareous water for watering. It is best to use rainwater if it is available.

The essentials in brief:

  • bright location, sunny or slightly shaded
  • lime-poor and slightly moist soil without waterlogging
  • in nature likes to be found in sparse forests
  • If possible, water with lime-free water, e.g. rainwater
