Unlike many other garden and house plants, palm trees do not need to be pruned regularly, on the contrary, it can even damage them. So just let your phoenix palm tree grow as the plant likes.

If you cut off the spines that are located at the bottom of your phoenix palm tree's trunk, they will not grow back. The palm tree does not die as a result and continues to grow normally.
It is different if you simply shorten your palm. Then it can no longer grow or form new fronds. That would be a pity, because the phoenix palm grows a magnificent crown over time.
The right cut for the phoenix palm
The fact that the phoenix palm does not require pruning makes it a very easy-care plant. Should a frond ever wilt, leave it on the palm until it is completely dry. This gives the palm time to draw the last available nutrients from the drier leaves. Then cut the frond close to the trunk, about 3 to 5 cm apart.
The care of the phoenix palm
So that your phoenix palm does not get brown leaves in the first place, make sure you have enough light and water. Watering too much or too little easily leads to discoloration of the leaves, as does too much fertilizer. This also makes them more susceptible to diseases or pests. A few days without water, for example when you go on a short vacation, is usually tolerated quite well by the phoenix palm.
The essentials in brief:
- only cut off wilted fronds
- Let the fronds dry completely before cutting
- no regular cut
- never cut at the top, then no new fronds can form there
tips
Only cut off completely dried fronds from your phoenix palm. As long as the fronds are still a bit green, your palm can still pull out nutrients.
