In contrast to the heather that blooms in summer, the so-called winter or snow heather (Erica carnea) already blooms in the first months of the year. In view of this rather unusual flowering time, the question arises for many plant lovers when is the optimal time for planting this semi-shrub.

The snow heath is planted in spring if possible
The ideal time for planting the winter heather is in spring, immediately after the winter flowering period. If the perennial plant is cultivated permanently in one location, this is the best time in the following years for a caring pruning.
The right care immediately after planting
After choosing a location that is as sunny as possible, the winter heather requires relatively little care, but it should:
- be cut immediately after flowering (important for the formation of new flower buds)
- adequately watered when dry
- be fertilized sparingly from April to late summer
The pruning of the plants is also important as a measure of rejuvenation, so that the plants do not become bare from the middle over the years.
tips
The winter heather is very hardy in itself, but as a young plant from the garden trade it should not necessarily be planted outdoors in heavy frost. Therefore, you should plant balcony boxes (€109.00) as early as autumn of the previous year if you want to enjoy the blooming splendor of the snow heather in winter.
