Like all potted plants, a Dipladenia in the hanging basket or in the window box has to be repotted more or less regularly. If the plant gets too big, it needs a larger planter. Fresh potting soil, on the other hand, is regularly needed.

The Dipladenia needs to be repotted when it gets too big for the pot

When should the Dipladenia be repotted?

It is best to repot your Dipladenia in the spring, even if it is an indoor plant. With the fresh soil, your Mandevilla gets many nutrients that it urgently needs during the flowering period. It is enough to use normal potting soil.

You should consider this when repotting the Dipladenia

If you want your Dipladenia to grow compactly or simply remain relatively small and handy, then cut back the old shoots when repotting. In this way, the Mandevilla will sprout again and remain floriferous for a long time. The Dipladenia does not need a particularly large pot. However, it should definitely have a drainage hole, because the Dipladenia does not tolerate waterlogging.

Lay a drainage layer of potsherds or large pebbles in the pot so that excess irrigation water can always drain off easily. If available, mix some compost or a handful of horn shavings (€32.93) under the potting soil, this saves you the first application of fertilizer. Then put the dipladenia in the pot and water them a little.

The essentials in brief:

  • ideally repot in spring
  • cut back at this point
  • do not take too large a pot with a drainage hole
  • Create a drainage layer of potsherds or pebbles
  • use regular potting soil
  • possibly mix some compost or horn shavings under the potting soil
  • Water the repotted plant a little

tips

Regular repotting keeps your Dipladenia healthy and thriving. Take this opportunity to check the plant for pests or signs of disease.
