A beautifully planted rose arch is a real eye-catcher in the garden. In the following article you will find out how to set up and plant such a plant in such a way that it can develop its full effect.

Above all, a rose arch needs one thing to look beautiful: time

Choose a location for the rose arch and set it up

A rose arch should fulfill certain functions, primarily structuring the garden and visually dividing it into different rooms. Such scaffolding is wonderfully suited as an entrance or passage, for example into the garden or as a transition to another part of the garden (e.g. from the utility to the ornamental garden). If the rose arch is actually to be planted with roses, you must pay particular attention to the right location - otherwise your roses will not feel comfortable and will not grow over the frame as desired. When setting up, the rose arch should be anchored in the ground, which can be done, for example, by embedding it in concrete. Sink the concrete layer deep enough to pack another layer of earth on top.

Not only climbing roses can be planted: design rose arches

Naturally, a rose arch is perfect for planting climbing roses. However, since climbing roses are basically only shrub roses with longer shoots, you can also use many higher-growing shrub roses for planting a rose arch. If these are drawn accordingly, i. H. If their shoots are stabilized and raised by being tied, they can reach considerable heights. These roses combine beautifully with clematis or honeysuckle.

Plant rose arches: Here's how

If the rose arch is firmly anchored in the ground, you can now plant it. This is best done in the fall to allow the plants to establish themselves by spring.

  • To do this, first dig up the soil at the planting site thoroughly and loosen it.
  • You should not plant the roses directly on the concrete layer as they are deep-rooted,
  • but leave an appropriate distance of at least 50 centimeters from the planting structure.
  • This also leaves enough space for the roots that grow in width.
  • Plant a rose bush on each side of the rose arch
  • and direct its shoots to the climbing frame.
  • Tie the shoots with soft but durable materials.
  • Bast is suitable for this, but also coated metal wires.
  • The growing shoots are tied to the side of the trellis,
  • not straight up.

tips

The roses covering the rose arch should be cut in such a way that they get the desired growth form.
