Rose arches made of wood or metal are available in all hardware and garden stores. With a little manual skill, you can build such garden structuring constructions yourself - in exactly the dimensions you want. Such a self-made rose arch is much cheaper to buy than bought specimens. If you want to work with wood, however, you should definitely make it weatherproof, for example by using wood that has already been processed and suitable for outdoor use or by applying appropriate coatings. Otherwise, the self-made construction will have to be replaced after just a few years. Particularly robust thermal wood is also well suited.
A wooden rose arch is easy to improvise yourselfSimple construction from bamboo sticks or logs
Even craftsmen who don't have a lot of experience with doing it themselves should be able to do this very simple construction. For this you need four to six - depending on the desired width - stable and two meter high round wood or thin tree trunks / straight branches. You connect these with other round pieces of wood of the desired length, which are fastened with wood screws, metal brackets or cross braces. This should result in a rectangle or square, depending on the desired shape. Attached cross braces ensure more stability, while self-made grids made of thin bamboo sticks are screwed to the side parts.
Construction with four squared timbers
This rose arch consists of four stable squared timbers, which are connected to each other with the help of two crossbars. These crossbars gain stability through a connection with at least five crossbeams, while the space between the squared timbers is filled with a self-made wooden trellis.
Wooden construction with wire mesh
This rose arch made of wood and wire mesh is also quite simple, for which you simply anchor four squared timbers in the ground and connect two with each other with a cross brace and thus stabilize it. The actual arch that connects the two scaffoldings consists of a suitably tailored wire mesh. More wire netting is attached to the space between the posts and serves as a climbing aid for the roses.
Metal rose arch ideas
Rose arches made of metal are more durable than the natural material wood, and you can have them hot-dip galvanized yourself by a specialist. Very simple constructions consist of long reinforcement irons, which you bend or have bent into the desired shape and then simply anchor in the ground. You can place wire mesh between the individual struts as a climbing aid or simply stretch wires.
Anchoring rose arches in the ground
No matter which rose arch you choose, stable attachment by anchoring it in the ground is extremely important. Otherwise, the entire construction, including the roses, could be torn down in the next storm. To do this, concrete the support pillars - either directly in the ground or in large planters - or place the pillars in large wire baskets filled with stones.
tips
You can also widen the rose arch to create a kind of arbor or pergola. Beneath it, wonderful seats can be set up, where you can then sit under beautiful blooming roses in summer.
