Perennial sunflowers make up for the smaller flower diameter and more compact growth height compared to annual Helianthus with a wealth of flowers and vital longevity. We have put together a selection of magnificent varieties for perennial care in beds and tubs for you here.

Perennial sunflowers in winter
All varieties of perennial sunflowers are absolutely hardy and therefore thrive without any problems throughout the year. However, the leaves die off and the plant retreats completely into the ground. But don't worry, the perennial perennial will sprout again in the spring. Potted plants should only be given winter protection to be on the safe side and overwintered in a sheltered place.
These varieties bloom in mid-summer
If you are on the lookout for a perennial sunflower to enchant your summer garden, the following varieties are available every year with lavish blooms from August to October:
- Soleil d'Or inspires with lush, bright yellow flowers and an ornamental silhouette; Growth height 130 cm
- Lemmon Queen draws attention to itself as a likeable spectator with its lemon-yellow flowers; Growth height 170-180 cm
- Triomphe de Gand impresses with 12 cm large flower heads and robust winter hardiness; Growth height 100-150 cm
These hybrids are wonderful for wind and privacy protection. With their powerful stature, perennial sunflowers hide bare facades, cover up rubbish bins and hide compost heaps from view.
These yellow blossom suns shine in autumn
The following premium varieties accompany us through autumn with their yellow flower discs. If the annual Helianthus have already retired, the following hybrids only emerge to their full beauty:
- Sheila's Sunshine lives up to its name as a giant sunflower with light yellow flowers and a full 300 cm in height
- Loddon Gold boasts double, ball-shaped flowers and is excellent for cut flowers; Height 140cm
- Willow-leaved sunflower takes on the role of a leader in the fall garden with towering flower stalks; Height 400 cm
In order for the vigorous sunflowers to maintain their posture, they should be able to lean on a support. Outdoors, it makes sense to place a plant stake next to the flowers.
