The bright blue cornflower has been used for centuries as a remedy for digestive ailments, eye diseases and skin problems. Today it is of little importance in medicine. But do the pretty daisy family, like many medicinal plants, also contain dangerous toxins?

The cornflower is even edible
The cornflower is not a poisonous plant and the attractive flowers can even be used as a decorative addition to salads. However, they only have a faintly spicy aroma and taste slightly bitter. For this reason, cornflower blossoms are used more as a decoration on desserts or wild herb salads and put aside before eating the food.
tips
Be sure to pluck off the leaves of the cornflower and set aside. Although they are also edible, they taste even more bitter than the flowers.
